These thick, bakery-style chocolate chip cookies are crisp on the edges, soft in the center, and loaded with melty chocolate chunks.
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter (browned or softened)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
Optional: flaky sea salt
Brown the butter and let cool slightly.
In a bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy.
Add egg, yolk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet and mix until combined.
Fold in chocolate chips/chunks. Chill dough for at least 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets.
Scoop large dough balls (about 3 tbsp), place on sheet, and bake 11–13 minutes.
Cool on pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to rack.
Sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.
Chill dough for best results. Use a mix of chips and chunks for texture.
