These thick, bakery-style chocolate chip cookies are crisp on the edges, soft in the center, and loaded with melty chocolate chunks.

Ingredients

Scale

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter (browned or softened)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
Optional: flaky sea salt

Instructions

  • Brown the butter and let cool slightly.

  • In a bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy.

  • Add egg, yolk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.

  • In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.

  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet and mix until combined.

  • Fold in chocolate chips/chunks. Chill dough for at least 1 hour.

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets.

  • Scoop large dough balls (about 3 tbsp), place on sheet, and bake 11–13 minutes.

  • Cool on pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to rack.

  • Sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.

Notes

Chill dough for best results. Use a mix of chips and chunks for texture.
