Brownie Layer:
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup cocoa powder
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ tsp salt
Cookie Layer:
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla extract
¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
½ cup chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment.
Make brownie batter: whisk melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in cocoa, flour, and salt. Spread in pan.
Make cookie dough: cream butter and sugars. Add yolk, vanilla, then mix in dry ingredients and chocolate chips.
Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over brownie layer. Gently spread or leave rustic.
Bake for 28–32 minutes. Cool completely before slicing.
Chill before slicing for clean cuts.
Customize with peanut butter, caramel, or nuts.
