1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1/4 tsp salt
Decorations: sprinkles, jam, melted chocolate, icing
Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
Mix in egg yolk, vanilla, and almond extract.
Sift in flour and salt. Stir until a soft dough forms.
Wrap and chill dough for at least 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets.
Shape cookies: roll, press, pipe, or cut.
Add jam, sprinkles, or leave plain for post-bake decorating.
Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are pale golden.
Cool on pan, then decorate as desired.
