A rich, layered chocolate dessert made with chocolate cake, pudding, melted Nestlé Toll House chocolate chips, and whipped topping — easy to make and perfect for feeding a crowd.
1 box chocolate cake mix (plus eggs, oil, water per package)
2 boxes (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
3 cups cold milk
1 1/2 cups Nestlé Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
8 oz whipped topping (Cool Whip or homemade)
Optional: 1/2 cup sour cream (for richer pudding), extra chips for garnish
Bake chocolate cake according to package in a 9×13-inch pan. Cool completely.
In a bowl, whisk pudding mix with milk (and sour cream, if using). Chill 10 mins.
Melt chocolate chips in the microwave until smooth. Let cool slightly.
In a large trifle dish or pan, layer crumbled cake, melted chocolate, pudding, whipped topping, and chips. Repeat.
Chill at least 4 hours or overnight. Garnish and serve cold.
