½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar (optional, for chewier texture)
2 large eggs
1½ tsp vanilla extract
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ tsp salt
½ cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment.
In a bowl, mix melted butter with sugars. Add eggs and vanilla; whisk well.
Stir in cocoa powder until smooth.
Fold in flour and salt just until combined. Add chocolate chips if using.
Pour into prepared pan and smooth top.
Bake 22–26 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
Cool completely before slicing.
Add sea salt on top before baking for flavor contrast.
Swap oil for butter for a slightly softer texture.
